GENRE COMPOSITION

COMPOSER'S STATEMENT

The genre that I was functioning in for this composition was social media and specifically Twitter. I composed a twitter thread breaking down all thirty NBA teams’ rosters and or lineups. I had thirty-two posts; thirty for each team, and then one original post at the beginning of the thread to announce what I was doing. In this header, I utilized one of twitters functions that separates it from a blog for example. I inserted two basketball emojis at the beginning and end of the first post. And after I had broken down each team’s lineups, I included the thirty-second and final reply, stating that I did not take into consideration if a player was injured.  I also included the fact that these lineups are not perfect and do not include the players that were signed to the teams after I posted the tweet. I included the last bit of information to clarify that I was unable to go back and edit any of the tweets to add new players. Due to the informal nature of my genre; social media, I was able to address the audience of this tweet in first person because that is how social media is. Users are talking mostly to their peers, not a formal or professional audience. I aimed to have my tweets read by the average basketball fan, such as myself. I envisioned the audience feeling excitement from my tweets to get ready for the upcoming season. It turns out that my vision came to fruition as I received multiple replies, likes, and re-tweets. My efforts to appeal to a certain audience worked and I can see myself doing this same type of thing again next year just for the fun of it!
